About this opportunity

Red Bee Media Content Discovery handles programme schedules for BBC TV and radio channels and a host of commercial channels. Listings writers enter timings, synopses and metadata into custom databases that supply programme information to electronic programme guides (EPGs), BBC iPlayer, video on demand (VOD) services and a variety of websites, and driving multimedia content.
We are looking for a listings writer to work in our BBC editorial team. First-class subbing skills are required: the role entails writing programme listings that are publishable, authoritative and effective. In addition, you will need to be a team player and possess good communications skills for liaising with our clients.

What you will do

  • Sourcing and evaluating channel and programme information from broadcasters, agencies or websites for channels assigned to you
  • Entering channel schedules and programme information on to a database in accordance with house style and client-specific requirements.
  • Writing programme listings for a wide and discriminating readership, including broadcasters and programme makers as well as viewers.
  • Writing pertinent, readable synopses based on programme billings, press information and other appropriate sources.
  • Creating series links between related programmes to trigger personal video recorders to record forthcoming episodes the same series.
  • Monitoring gaps in your schedules to ensure that complete listings are received by clients.


You will bring

  • First-class subbing skills – including the ability to paraphrase programme information effectively – excellent spelling, punctuation, grammar, and attention to detail
  • Great teammate and an effective communicator skills
  • Excellent customer relations and organisation skills
  • Good knowledge of TV and radio
  • Flexible and cooperative approach to work
  • IT literacy, including the ability to master the TeleView database
  • A typing speed of 35-40wpm
